HOMEGROWN MUSIC FESTIVAL: Celtic Afternoon

  • The Toucan & Kirkpatrick's 76 Princess Street Kingston, ON, K7L 1A5 Canada (map)

1:30PM: Celtic Strings
Celtic Strings is a group of musicians that play for the Irish Folk Club the first Friday of each month. We play all kinds of Celtic music and tunes for Irish Dancers. Mary Kennedy, Mike Bonner, Diane Robinson, Brent Schneider and a special guest for Homegrown Barry Yuen (singing Celtic). We are all from Kingston!

2:30PM: Fiddle Earth
Fiddle Earth is unique musical troupe hailing form Kingston, Ontario. A quartet, we first played together in late 2012 after noticing we were contrasting pairs: each couple had a fiddle player and a vocalist/string player, but of opposite gender! We are a play in contrasts: male and female fiddlers playing in harmony: male and female vocalists, one high, one low; guitar and tenor guitar. As more than one fan has said, it should not work together, but it does, beautifully. (Brent Schneider, Mary Kennedy, Alice Ching-Chew, Ted Chew)

3:30PM: Celtic Rumblings
Celtic Rumblings has been part of the Celtic music scene for the last 15 years. The group has gone through various members over the years, the current lineup contains: Sharon Buffet, vocals, mandolin and guitar + Tom MacIntosh, vocals and guitar + Ted Chew, fiddle and vocals + Kathleen Logan Vocals and percussion. We attempt a varied range of Celtic and East Coast, tunes to get the audience involved.

4:30PM: No Great Mischief
No Great Mischief is a Kingston-based Celtic trio featuring Meghan Balogh on fiddle, Erik Coleman on bouzouki and guitar, and Ian Leslie on uilleann pipes and whistles. Its members have three lifetimes' worth of combined musical experience, and have played with groups such as The Wakami Wailers, Night Sun, Dog Tooth Violet, David Francey, comedian Tom Green and many more. The music of No Great Mischief belies their enthusiasm for the tunes of Ireland and other Celtic traditions, and their unabashed enjoyment of each other's musical company.
